Uncover new insights with these end-to-end Heatmaps updates

Image #1

To find simple ways to improve your user experience, you need a reliable tool that’ll surface interesting patterns on even the most complex sites. That’s what the latest Heatmaps updates are all about.

There’s a more flexible screenshot retaker to visualize how your customers interact with dynamic content like drop-downs or pop-ups. You can now use “regular expressions” to uncover new patterns on sites with complex URL structures. And you’ll glide from spotting signals in Heatmaps to investigating and actioning them in Recordings. Let’s dive into what’s new:

Spot new opportunities with powerful URL queries

Got a site with product listings, or a web-based app? You might have a more complex URL structure that looks something like this: https://acme.com/[numeric id]/[product name]/gallery

Tricky URLs make generating heatmaps no easy task—it’s been a source of frustration for many customers. We listened to your feedback, and now you can create heatmaps based on a URL matching a regular expression AKA “regex.” Aggregate insights across multiple pages of your site with regex queries that match specific URL patterns 🎯

Use a regex query to:

  • Discover fresh insights for pages with complex or personalized URLs
  • Boost the precision of multi-page heatmap queries to be sure of your findings
  • Analyze pages with similar designs, but different URLs

Wondering what the heck regex is, or how you can write regex queries to boost your heatmaps’ precision? View examples in the Help Center.

Adjust screenshots to reveal what matters most

Want to see interactions on dynamic content, like a drop-down or a lazy-loaded image? Prefer to switch your heatmap screenshot to dark mode? Use the new screenshot retaker so you’ve got a solid foundation to capture the data you care about 😌

To capture the right moment in your heatmaps screenshot:

  • Select Change screenshot, then Take new
  • Your site’s current experience will load in a new window
  • Navigate and adjust the page as you see fit
  • When you’re ready, retake the screenshot. Hint: Use a keyboard shortcut (CTRL+K or ⌘+K) for added flexibility ✨

View recordings to add color to your findings

We’ve all been there: you spot an interesting user behavior in a heatmap, you’ve got an idea to explain it, but how do you validate it? A great place to start is to dive into recordings. See how users navigate that page, and where they go before and after. Reduce your assumptions, get buy-in, and prioritize a fix.

In your fresh Heatmaps interface, watching recordings from a heatmap is a breeze 👌

Select View recordings on any heatmap to dive straight into a filtered list of relevant sessions. Grab some popcorn and uncover the “why” behind those signals 🍿📺

A truckload of Heatmaps updates to help you succeed! Try them out to ace the analysis of your website flows:

  • Target a specific group of pages with a neat regex query 🤓
  • Uncover a previously-hidden UX issue on dynamic content like a drop-down 😳
  • Head to recordings to size any issue, spot the cause, and prioritize a fix 😎
