Snip, sort, and share your insights with Highlights
If you’ve been trying (and failing 😬) to create a streamlined process for saving, organizing, and sharing user behavior insights then this is for you!
For you to make user-led improvements, finding insights isn’t enough. You need to sort and analyze those insights, form your hypothesis, validate it, and get your team onboard so you can confidently prioritize the most impactful product improvements. Until now, you had to use tools like Google Sheets, Docs, or Slack to organize your insights and share them with your team. But the latest addition to Hotjar is shaking things up!

We’re excited to introduce Highlights 🥳.
Highlights allows you to cut out snippets of your recordings and heatmaps and save them into collections that you can share and analyze with your team. With all of your meaningful insights organized in one place, you can easily discover opportunities, validate assumptions, and get buy-in from your team.
Highlights is now available to all users on our Plus, Business, and Scale plans. Users on our Basic plan will get access to Highlights from the week of November 8.
With Highlights you can:
- Extract and save interesting insights by creating a highlight of any part of a heatmap or moment in a recording.
- Add labels to categorize your highlights: 🐞 Bug ⚠️ UI/UX Issue 😕 Confusion 😡 Frustration 🎉 Success 🏆 Conversion
- Add comments to highlights about the user behavior you’re seeing and @mention a teammate to loop them in on your findings. They’ll receive an email notification to let them know they’ve been tagged.
- Download a PNG of your heatmap highlight or video clip of a recording to quickly share it with your team or add it to your product proposal.
- Group highlights into collections so you have one central place for your most meaningful insights—and somewhere your team can easily find them! Name your collection by stage in the user journey e.g. User onboarding, by project e.g. Checkout redesign, by bug e.g. Users failing at purchase—or by whatever categorization fits your needs.
- Sort and filter collections and highlights by date, author, source, or label so you can quickly find the insights you need.
Highlights enables you to sort and act on insights more effectively as a team, bringing higher confidence to product decisions, so you can prioritize and implement the most impactful changes. And with your most relevant insights grouped in one place, it makes spotting behavioral patterns and validating assumptions a whole lot easier. It’s a win-win 🙌

📢 Favoriting and manually tagging in Recordings will be replaced by Highlights from November 8
- Instead of favoriting recordings that are important to you, now you can save snippets of recordings as highlights. Unlike favorites, recordings highlights are visible to everyone in your team, not just you.
- Instead of manually adding tags to your recordings, now you can add a label to the recording highlight. Unlike manual tags, highlights pinpoint the specific point in the recording where the interesting behavior took place, and are visible in your recordings list.
❗ If you’d like to keep a note of the recordings you've favorited or manually tagged up to now, you’ll need to export your recordings data before November 8.
