As a Hotjar user, you’re probably familiar with that WOW moment when you first see a recording of a real user navigating your site. Recordings are a super useful tool to help you understand your users, map their journey, and spot the problems and pain points they’re running into. Let’s be real, though, we also know that our users have experienced quite a few OW moments when using Recordings in Hotjar.
We’re a product team that really values feedback from our users and, like you, we’re always striving to create a better user experience. So, when you told us things like:
- we did what good product teams do. We investigated the issues, validated that they were a problem for lots of our users, prioritized them relative to all of the other things we want to build, and set to work on fixing them.
So what have we done to address these common issues and make sure that you really see what your user sees?
1. Multi-tab support: You can now follow your user’s journey when they open your site in a new tab or window. You’ll get the full picture without the risk of missing important insights.3. More accurate rendering of your site: We’ve made quite a few improvements on this front. For the technically-minded among you, we now support adopted stylesheets in shadowDOM, and we’ve fixed some bugs in how recordings display CSS. In non-technical terms, your website should now appear in Hotjar Recordings much closer to how it does in your browser.
We’re confident that these improvements will make watching recordings a far more pleasant experience. You might even take a leaf out of Spotahome’s book and organize a Hotjar watch party for your team to share learnings about your users’ behavior.
