If you’ve ever launched a marketing campaign that’s fallen flat—one you’ve poured your heart and soul into—you’ll know it can feel mildly disappointing. (Yep, that’s an understatement.)
But the devil is in the details. Perhaps your organic social traffic is killing it, while visitors from paid ads are bouncing faster than a cheetah on a trampoline.
Whatever the case may be, you need to dig into the behavior of each channel to begin optimizing your conversion rates.
That’s what our new traffic channel filter lets you do.
It’s a simple way to see how users from different channels behave on your site. So you can connect your metrics to real user behavior, and can uncover the why behind low-converting campaigns.
Say you launched a multi-channel marketing campaign. You use both organic and paid channels to maximize the visibility of your limited-time offer. And you want to understand how users coming from each channel behave on your site.
Go to Recordings and select the traffic channel filter. Then enter your UTM campaign and combine it with UTM sources such as ‘email,’ or ‘paid_social.’ And watch your users in the wild to get insights into how they convert or don’t convert.
Need to zoom out to see the bigger picture? Set up your conversion funnel and compare different funnels for two or more traffic sources. You can then identify which channel performs best and jump into the relevant recordings for more insights.
Note that if you were using the Referrer URL filter to track different traffic sources, you can also do that with the traffic channel filter. Just choose ‘Referrer URL’ as a sub-filter when you set up your traffic channel.
Use the traffic channel filter to:
Optimize your landing pages for different channels or segments by filtering your heatmaps by traffic channel
Keep track of your top traffic channels with the new Top Traffic Channels widget on your dashboard
Analyze user behavior for your main traffic channels with direct, paid, and organic traffic segments in Recordings
The traffic channel filter is now available on the Observe Business and Scale plans. If you don’t have a Hotjar account yet, start your 15-day free Observe Business trial to use the traffic channel filter and all the other advanced filtering options.
Say goodbye to wasted marketing budgets and hello to improved conversion rates.
