Picture this: just an ordinary day, where you head to your Hotjar recordings to see how users are reacting to your new onboarding flow. You set the date to the last 24 hours, filter by “/signup,” and—oh no! You still have 300+ recordings to go through! That’s a lot to tackle when you have a packed to-do list.
Hotjar users who are always on the hunt for smarter ways to segment users are already familiar with User Attributes. With User Attributes, you can filter recordings or heatmaps by users on a specific pricing plan or by attributes, like those with the highest LTV, and send targeted surveys to get even more granular insights.
If you already use User Attributes and have accumulated a list you no longer need—like attributes created for debugging or testing, or ones with typos—then you’re probably eager to clean them up. With our latest improvements, you’ll be able to delete unnecessary user attributes and manage your user attribute library a lot more easily. 🎉
If you’re having a hard time finding the right user attributes to filter your data or target feedback & survey widgets, this improvement is for you. You can now delete the user attributes you no longer need by clicking on the delete icon on the User Attributes page.
Rest assured that deleting the user attribute will not remove it from existing sessions and responses, so you can still see whether a recording belongs to a user with a previously deleted attribute.
Just a heads up that if you have segments using a user attribute, deleting that user attribute will remove those segments, too. If you have a widget using that user attribute as a targeting rule, it will also be deactivated.
Not sure which user attribute to delete? We’ve added a “Last seen” column that shows the last time we received each user attribute, so you can easily detect unused ones.
You can now see the number of sessions where users were identified and the number of custom events you tracked with the Events API in the last 24 hours on the Maximum Traffic Coverage widget. So you’ll be able to keep track of your events at a glance.
We’re confident that these improvements will make managing user attributes much more efficient. If you haven’t checked out your user attributes in a while, now is the time to do a spring clean!
