We offer two discount types when paying for Hotjar in-app using a credit card or PayPal:

1. A 20% discount when you pay for your subscription yearly

2. A 10% discount on the lowest selected plan when you subscribe to two paid plans (i.e. a paid plan on our Observe product, and a paid plan on our Ask product)

Please note that these discounts are only applicable for in-app payments. Payments over a manual invoice are not eligible for neither discounts.

A session is a visitor’s full journey on your site, including every page they visit. Every time a visitor comes to your site, we’ll record their journey and how they interact with your page. You can analyze this data in Heatmaps and Recordings.

Many customers choose a plan which lets them capture every session on their site. However, you don’t have to capture every session. If you pick a smaller plan, we’ll sample your data, ensuring consistent coverage over the month.

Most customers tend to pick a plan which captures at least 80% of their site’s traffic.

Installation involves copy and pasting your unique Tracking Code on the site you would like to track. This tracking code allows you to collect data from your visitors and send it back to Hotjar. We’ve created guides to help you install the Tracking Code on various platforms that you can find here.

Yes. There is no limit to the number of sites you can manage in one account. All of your sites are accessible under one account, making it easy to manage multiple different sites.

Hotjar automatically distributes data collection throughout the day (what we call ‘sampling’). Of course, if you pick a plan that’s equal to the number of sessions on your site, you’ll collect all the data, and there will be no need for sampling.

When your site's daily traffic exceeds the data collection rate of the Hotjar Observe plan it is on, we use a method known as sampling to collect data. Hotjar will track a portion of your site's daily traffic – known as the sample size – to build your reports.

Sampling only applies to data used in Recordings and Heatmaps. It doesn't apply to Feedback or Surveys. Head here for more information.

If you use up your full monthly responses allowance, your Feedback widgets will no longer appear on your site, and your Surveys will no longer be sent. They’ll start up again next month.

And of course, we’ll let you know if you’re at risk of using up your full allowance. Unlike with sessions on your Observe plan, Hotjar doesn’t “sample” feedback responses when you exceed your Ask plan allowance.

Responses are calculated across all feedback widgets and surveys per site. For example: if you have 2 surveys with 50 responses each, and 1 Feedback widget with 30 responses, you have collected 130 responses.

Deleting responses won’t reset them as we count already collected responses towards your plan. Responses reset on the 1st day of the calendar month for all accounts.

Yes, every new account starts out with a trial of the most advanced features—for free. There are no auto-charges and you don't need to input any payment details. After the 15-day trial period, you can choose which plans you want (or continue with the free ones).

Hotjar's paid plans for European customers will be billed in Euros. Customers outside of this region will be billed in U.S. dollars.

With Hotjar, there is no contract to sign, and you can upgrade or downgrade between different plans at any time – directly from your account. If you choose to pay monthly, you can cancel your subscription at any time by downgrading to the free Basic plan.

Yes. One plan allows you to capture data for one top-level domain (e.g., hotjar.es/ hotjar.co.uk). You can, however, use the same plan for all of your subdomains (e.g., help.hotjar.com / insights.hotjar.com). If your organization owns multiple top-level domains, or if you work with clients, a plan for each site set up in Hotjar will be required. You can downgrade and upgrade your site plans at any time.

Yes – Hotjar gives you the option to pay for your plans annually. When annual payment is set up in-app with a credit card or Paypal, a 20% discount before VAT is added to your bill. Note that this discount is not applicable when paying by invoice. Take a look at our help doc for further details.

Yes! We offer a 10% discount on the lowest selected plan when you subscribe to two paid plans (i.e. a paid plan on our Observe product, and a paid plan on our Ask product). This applies on top of the 20% discount on annual plans.

For monthly payments or yearly payments, we support all major credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, AMEX, Maestro, and Discover) and Paypal. For yearly payments on the Scale plan, we accept payments via wire transfer.

All new accounts have a 30-day-money-back guarantee. Cancel within 30 days and you’ll receive a full refund.

If you cancel after 30 days you’ll be charged up until the end of the current billing cycle. For customers on a monthly contract, that will be a month after your last payment. For customers on an annual contract, that will be a year after your last payment. 

Remember, you never need to cancel your Hotjar account completely. You’ll simply move down to our free forever Basic account. For more information see our cancellation policy.
